Miscellaneaous plants Gallery

Here you can find the plants of which we have a only a few per genus. All kinds allowed, just proven not to be carnivorous... Many of these plants were acquired locally often without names and we did our best to name them properly. Still we can't guarantee anything when it comes to correctness...

Alternanthera dentata 'Burgundy Threads'

wikipedia

AVAILABLE FOR SALE

Alternanthera are small shrubs, that are grown for their colorful leaves, while their flowers can be easily missed. These plants are very friendly in nature, surviving even drought spells, granted they are not totally forgotten. We use them for landscaping and while they thrive in very bright spots, they seem to be slightly happier if provided a little shade. The photo doesn't do their deep burgundy color no justice, have to take a better one.

Alternanthera dentata 'Gold Threads'

wikipedia

AVAILABLE FOR SALE

Another Alternanthera this time with thin golden leaves. If you keep this plant too shady, the leaves will be green, while still being a happy plant. But their true potential comes out if you put them in a sunny place, so they get a little baked and thus turn yellow - eh, gold :)

Alternanthera 'Red Marble'

wikipedia

AVAILABLE FOR SALE

This is actually a very creepy plant. At first it looks quite normal, you know, like you would expect from a plant: green leaves for example. All of the sudden you might discover leafs that are purple on their left side and green on the right. Then if the plant feels like, there are no more green leafs, but all are purplish. This can happen vise versa and I really had to double check, if there are not two different plants in the same pots, but given our numbers of plants, this magician really seems to play with our senses... This is btw one of the larger Alternanthera that can reach almost a meter before starting to fall to the side.

Alternanthera dentata 'Party Time'

wikipedia

AVAILABLE FOR SALE

There are some plants with variegated leafs, an effect (milder expression for genetic damage) that causes leaves to be partially bleached. This usually looks quite unique and pretty surely results in white or beige parts of the leaves. Not so for Alternanthera: Here it is a striking ultra-Barbie pink, not shy of anything. Crazy. Keep it a little shadier.

Plectranthus scutellarioides

wikipedia

OUT OF STOCK

If you need colorful fast growing plants, there is no way around Plectranthus (formerly Solenostemon). We have them in all kinds of colors and shapes. So, if you wish we can create an assorted mix. We will add more photos in near future. The name is lovely isn't it? If you want it easier, you can name it Coleus or painted Nettle. But in my opinion there is no challenge with those names ;)

Plectranthus scutellarioides 2

wikipedia

OUT OF STOCK

Next candidate for this genus, they probably also deserve their own subsection at our site.

Impatiens New Guinea hybrid

wikipedia

AVAILABLE FOR SALE

A fantastic plant for any tropical garden, full of live, colors and flowers. BUT BEWARE: Never let it dry up, it looks immediately very terrible. It will give you a chance and recover quickly, but if it has to wait too long - it's gone. If it's well watered, it is as easy as can be. We might have more varieties than the pictured one.

Asparagus sp.

wikipedia

OUT OF STOCK

Asparagus? Veggies at the Pitcher Plant Farm? Nah, not really, this is just an ornamental form. Great as a hanging plant

Kalanchoe sp.

wikipedia

OUT OF STOCK

A stunning species of Kalanchoe producing vertical succulent leafs, whitish, with a pink tint if well exposed to sun. This is the candidate for a dryer area, near the house for example, where the roof protects it from rain. It will thrive, even if unprotected, just make sure the soil is well drained then.

Chlorophytum sp.

wikipedia

OUT OF STOCK

Well, let's call it Chlorophytum for now, but if you tell me in a firm voice that I am wrong, I will willingly adjust the name.

Chlorophytum orchidastrum

wikipedia

OUT OF STOCK

Pseuderanthemum atropurpureum

wikipedia

OUT OF STOCK

We got this plant from a local source, who called it Milkmary, which doesn't seem to be a valid name. Information about the plant is scarce, but it is from the Acanthaceae family...

Strobilanthes dyerianus

wikipedia

AVAILABLE FOR SALE

Purple might be a common color for a flower, but for leaves? This Strobilanthes is the master of purple, while it can do silver, too. It is also traded as 'Persian shield'. It is member of the Acanthaceae family and native to Myanmar.

I told you, that we have other Impatiens forms. This is one :)

Pilea sp.

Once again with a question mark. :)

Dracaena sanderiana

Euphorbia millii

wikipedia

OUT OF STOCK

This plant is for specialists that are unaware that plants need to be watered. At the same time these are very thorny, so if you plant many, you can keep someone or something away from you :) Beware of their white sap, it's quite poisonous.

Pseuderanthemum atropurpureum 2

wikipedia

OUT OF STOCK

This might be the same plant as above, but with a more intense coloration - I have actually to compare the plants themselves.

Dracaena compacta

wikipedia

OUT OF STOCK

Like most Dracaenas a very sturdy and forgiving plant.

Codiaeum variegatum

wikipedia

OUT OF STOCK

Another real survivor in case you are looking for plants that need to survive sun and drought. It's also our Carabao's favorite desert... They are also known as Croton.

Euphorbia tithymaloides

wikipedia

OUT OF STOCK

This plant which is synonymous to Pedilanthus tithymaloides is commonly called the Devil's backbone or Redbird cactus is native to North and Central America. I think I have never killed a plant of this species - how can you kill a Devil anyway? ;-) Meaning you can plant it anywhere you please and it will most likely survive. Instinctively, due to it's succulent nature, I do recommend drier and well draining locations.

Geogenanthus undatus

A plant from the Commelinaceae that looks surprisingly similar to the prayer plants. Certainly an attention catching plant.

Aloe vera

A well known plant thanks to the marketing industry. It is used for lotions and other cosmetic products. A few years ago it was even used as a supposedly live extending flavor for drinks and other health foods, until some research revealed that it is indeed under certain circumstances if overused poisonous as it causes potassium loss... Fortunately the researchers survived and could pass on this message, before these plants fulfilled their evil plan to replace the human race... :) Having said that it is a nice and easy plant - keep it dry and sunny. And watch out :-)
