Byblis the Rainbow Plant

There are currently 7 species of Byblis, which are all native to Australia. While these plants are stunningly similar to sundews like Drosera indica, they are botanically not close at all. The main difference is, that Byblis has zygomorphic flowers. The plants are easy growers, the main "problem" being, that they need to be repropagated through seeds periodically. To spice things up, except B. liniflora, the seeds expect a fire treatment to germinate. It is enough to burn some leaves for 30 seconds on a pot with seeds. Some other growers were also able to archive germinating with chlorine or GA3, but smoke supposedly works best. The plants like like sundew high light levels and a moist peatish soil. They are not easy to ship, we keep them in soil, to minimize root disturbance.

B. liniflora

AVAILABLE MID 2012

This might be the best starter plant, as the seeds germinate without further treatment. So basically you should be seeing small plants germinating around the mother plant after it has flowered.

B. guehoi

AVAILABLE MID 2012

This plant looks like B. filifolia, but is known to do multibranching, which should make it quite pretty. We might have it available in numbers soon, if everything works out, as we are hoping for :-)
